If you have come to this page, you have taken the first step in the journey to mental health wellness. It takes courage to look at ourselves and realize we need help. If you choose to work with me as a counselor or as a coach, know that we will walk through this together. My challenge is to give you the tools so that you may eventually walk this journey in a healthy manner on your own.
I have often found many people to have the answers they need, but talking with someone and refocusing helps them move forward. Sometimes there is a sense of loss or grief for the life they believe they should have at the moment. There is often a fear of the unknown where the narrative is, “What happens to my life if I change? I am used to living this way.” As you learn new skills, you begin to understand that life can indeed be different and more fulfilling that what you currently are experiencing. I enjoy seeing the light bulb turn on when clients realize they can attain their goals.
Mental health is about more than talk therapy. It requires much time and effort. I believe in whole health, so we will not only discuss mental health, but we will also discuss how other aspects of health (social, physical, nutritional, and spiritual) also connect with overall wellness. While I have clients who do not want to integrate spiritual growth as they work towards mental wellness, many of my clients choose to also integrate their faith
I enjoy working with young people and young adults. Each young person who is able to overcome their struggles becomes a healthy adult. That being said, I have the privilege of working with all ages. Every stage of life brings its own struggles and victories. The most important requirement I have for any client is the willingness to change.
About me
I began the journey into mental health when I was a youth group leader. I noticed many young people were either over stressed by the amount of goals they were trying to attain, or they had no goals at all to look forward to. As I continued my work with them, I also noticed a high level of anxiety and depression in their age group. I decided that in order to help young adults find solutions, I needed some formal training. A former mentor suggested I look into coaching. After a brief time at another college, I decided to attend Liberty University’s online program where in 2016 I earned my Bachelor of Science in Life Coaching with a minor in Christian Counseling. I was encouraged by my internship boss to further my education and pursue counseling. I moved forward and obtained my Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in 2019. After several years in residency I became a Licensed Practicing Counselor in Virginia. In addition to my state certification, I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor through N.B.C.C. In July 2019, I became a Board Certified Master Life Coach through the Board of Christian Life Coaches, a subsidiary of the American Association of Christian Counselors.
